Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Wifes old debt of a car loan

Is my husband responsible for a car loan that I co-signed with my x-boyfriend 7 years ago?

I was forced into signing it as I was in an abusive relationship. The contract was signed in Aug 2001 and we broke up, with police reports written, Nov 2001.

They repossed the vechile and I have no idea where he is as he is a severe drug addict that I last ''heard'' was living on the streets?

What do I need to do??

Re: Wifes old debt of a car loan

your husband is not responsible BUT if you are listed on his bank accounts they may become involved if a judgment is entered and the judgment creditor issues restraint subpoenas against YOUR bank accounts...You might try getting out of the deal by claiming you did not voluntarily sign the agreement but was coerced into it...I am not sure how that will go...but if the amount due is significant it may be worth a try.
