Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

If I'm charged with a crime i can get a free lawyer. What about the people that filed it? do they have to hire a lawyer?

No, the complaining witnesses do not need to hire a lawyer, they will have the prosecutor on their side.

Yes, the above answer is correct, they will be advised by the prosecutor. Do note that you are only eligible for a public defender if you are indigent or have very low income in the eyes of the court. If these complainants think they might also have a civil suit against you, then they will have to hire an attorney.
