Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
If you are on a dating website and upload a random photo as your profile picture and dont use their name of any of their information can you get in legal trouble? I was messaged saying that it would be reported to the police because it is a misdemeanor in NYS. I was not pretending to be her I just had her picture up that I found online because I did not want to put mine? If im in trouble tell me what could happen to me. I have never done anything wrong before.

The crime would come within the realm of an identity theft crime/ fraud. without knowing more of the facts it may be hard to elaborate.
