Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I have filed two police claims for an aggrevated harassment incident and a hit and run incident. The police have been shown the text messages as well as facebook contact from the individual harassing me. The person was apprehended and is in custody. Upon speaking to the detective prior to the apprehension, I was informed the person falsely claimed I was harassing them? I was not arrested or informed I would be arrested because the claim was filed as "closed." I am wondering what protection against future false claims I have? The person obvioulsy wants me to be in legal trouble which is why they filed the claim. Once in police custody, are they allowed to make additional claims against me? If so, should I hire an attorney?

There never is any fool proof way to prevent false claims against you. Fortunately you have the documentation this time. Try to get a police report that the person did file a false claim against you and the police marked it closed. It may help in the future.

Often times cross-complaints are filed to maintain leverage in plea negotiations or for defense purposes. To protect your rights I would recommend consulting a competent criminal defense attorney. You may contact my office @7188340087 to set up a consultation.
