Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
My friend got a summon in NY while travelling in PATH train for fare evasion. It is pink in color and and has sec Sec 6861 sub 4 title 17 and need to appear in court at 346 broadway. I would like to know how serious is this and why does he have to appear in court?

It is a misdemeanor. If he hires a lawyer he won't have to appear in court. I handle these all the time.
