Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I was recently charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property in the 5th degree for stealing traffic cones from the town of Croton in Westchester County where I live. I intended on relocating them not keeping them but I was pulled over with them in my possession. I have a completely clean record and did not intend on hurting anyone with this, just playing a practical joke. I would like to know what an attorney would be able to do for me in this situation, and if possible, what i can expect to pay. I'm told there should be two or three court appearances.

I think a realistic goal would be to resolve the case without pleading guilty to either criminal charge. Meaning that you would still not have a criminal record. Fees range from $1500-3000 for lesser experienced attorneys and $2500-5000 for more experienced attorneys like myself. Go to court and see if they offer you a "Violation" which is a non-criminal offense. If they do take it. If not hire a lawyer. If you had no intention of keeping the cones if is not a crime.

You need a competent criminal defense attorney. A plea to any crime will affect your future. A plea to a violation will not. Retain a good attorney ,the cost today will be well worth it over time. The fees quoted by the other attorney are realistic. I would be happy to discuss strategy further with you. You should not expect jail time, but it would be highly recommended to have an experienced lawyer with you defending you and preserving your rights in court. It would also greatly increase the chance of lowering the charges or possible dismissal. We have substantial experience handling these types of cases and reasonable fees, however, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination. You are welcome to contact us for a free consultation.
