Legal Question in Discrimination Law in New York

grand jury service

I received a summons for grand jury duty in Suffolk County NY starting 8/13 and running for 4 weeks. I WAS JUST HIRED as an elementary school teacher (my first job out of college!) and start Aug 28. I CANNOT serve 4 weeks; I'll lose my job...what should I do? I can ask for a postponement by giving a date 2-4 months from now....school will STILL BE IN SESSION! Should I show up on Aug 13 and explain my story, should I request a postponement and give a date next summer (WHEN I WILL BE OFF !!!!),,,HELP...I am a new college grad, this is my first job, i CANNOT jeopardize it.

Re: grand jury service

They will not make you serve on the grand jury under the circumstances.

Just go and explain.
