Legal Question in Entertainment Law in New York

RE: authorship of music composition and Lyric copyrights

hello, I am a guitarist in a four piece band. We are ready to record a demo containing 20 songs. I personally have composed the lyrics, vocal melody's and music for 12 of these songs. Now I am willing to share 25% of the money earned but I think I am entitled to the credit for the work I have personally produced and should hold the copyright's to these songs exclusively.

I have drawn up an inter-band agreement stating the above. I wish to know if I am right in my beleifs or not according to U.S.copyright law.

thank you,

BRITISH STEEL

British Steel, I agree that if you wrote the songs, you should get 100% of the music publishing rights - a major source of income for you! If you need assistance drafting an agreement, give me a call at 212-208-2470. We can talk about shopping your demo and discuss our favorite Priest records.
