Legal Question in Entertainment Law in New York

if my daughter sings to a karokee version of a song, its recorded and we put it on the web site for $1 donation to Breast Cancer (we never collect the money only the American Cancer Society does), is that legal. I'm not worried about the donation of money, I'm worried about the using the karokee version of the song to make money.....

This is very sweet, esp since it teaches kids at an early age to give back. I wish I could answer but I bet a nice atty in this area of law would do so pro bono. This is a very common scenario and I have heard jokes from comedians stating that used a re-recorded version of a song to avoid royalties because their producers were too cheap to use the original (then they cut to the producer-ha ha).
