In referance to Divorce, could you please explain the differance between Alimony and Maintenance. Also, how can one tell which one they are reciving from thier Ex-Spouse?

Re: Alimony Vs. Maintenance

The amount and duration of any spousal support award ought to be spelled out in the court order or in the property settlement agreement. It is also important to determine the nature of the payments (alimony or property settlement) for income tax purposes.

If you would like to discuss the matter further, please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail.

They are the same. In New York, we use the term maintenance or spousal maintenance.
