Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Child Custody

My cousin went to jail and got deported. Her seven year old daughter then got turned over to her grandmother (My Aunt) for temporary care. Now I want to take custody of her since pretty much no one else in the family is able to keep her my Aunt and Cousin both agree and are willing to sign any paperwork. However, my cousin is in a different country and my aunt and I in different states. How do I go about getting full legal custody?

Re: Child Custody

It would appear that you would need to go to the state( NY?) where the child is currently residing with your aunt and file your custody papers in the appropriate family court in that jurisdiction. It would be advisable, it goes with out saying, for you, if at all possible, to have a local lawyer there to assist you with this matter.
