Child Support

My question is if you have a child you get devorced the father is totally out of the picture the child gets adopted by the ex-wifes new husband is the real father still responsible for child support? This is on Long Island New York

For an adoption to be finalized, you have to have the consent of the parent who is going to be "out of the picture," and they have to relinquish all of their parental rights. If that wasn't done, the adoption could be on shaky ground. I wouldn't stir things up by asking for child support; you can't get it anyway if there has been an adoption. Good luck!
