Legal Question in Family Law in New York

domestic abues

i had my boyfriend arrested last friday for grabing me in an argument and i moved out of our apartment last saturday but know i dont want to press charges because they are trying to give him alot of time in prison and i dont want that to happen to him i should have just left but i wasnt thinking at the time i went to the precinct to drop the ccharges and they said he saw the judge already so i would have to speak with the DA now but im nervous about doing that because i dont want to get my self in trouble now i just want the charges dropped because i dont want to be responsible for him being put in prison i just dont want to be with him what should i do how can i get out of this?

You probably can't. You can let the D.A. know that you do not want to go forward as a witness, but if you were injured and there were medical records, they may not need you to. Also there is the possibility (slight, but it exists) that if you refuse to cooperate, they could subpoena you and force you to testify. I'm afraid that once a criminal matter is in the hands of public authorities, the matter is no longer in your hands.
