Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Filing A Seperation Agreement

I live in NY, I have the seperation agreement form. Do I need to have a lawyer to file it? Can I file it my self in the court? Please advise and If I can, could you please explain procedure. I've filed a couple of things in the court before so I'm not new to the system. I just don't know procedure on legal seperation.

Thanks,

Re: Filing A Seperation Agreement

If you have a properly completed and notarized separation agreement you can file it yourself. Bring an extra copy so that it can be stamped as received, for your records. You will need to purchase an index number from clerk.

Only problem I see is if the separation agreement is incomplete or not properly notarized for when you file for diorce the agreement forms the basis for same. If it is improper, you will have to start all over.
