Is there any specific New York State Statute or case law as to proper service of an order of protection/restraining order

Yes, there is.

Suggest you get a lawyer to help you with this. If you cannot afford a lawyer, the court may be able to appoint one for you, if you ask.

If you prefer not to have a lawyer [perhaps because you do not like lawyers], then I suggest you get a professional process server and stick to doing what you do best.
