Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My rights has a sperm donor

A lady and her girlfriend I meet would like to have a child. I was asked to be the father. They want the father to no contact with the child. They said I would have finanical responsiblity. Is there a chance that at some point in the childs life the mother and child could look to recieve support from me? Should I be on the birth certificate?

It sounds like you are not very well-acquainted with the women who require a sperm donor. These situations, and the intent and emotions of the parties, are extremely unpredictable and I strongly advise anyone against getting involved. The women you met can pursue other options for having a child. Feel free to call me at 212-367-9167 to dscuss this further.

Re: My rights has a sperm donor

This is an intersting question which the courts will be addressing more closely in the future. The law at this time is that socity has an interest in parenting. This means that the parties (man and woman/women) may not have a contract or agreement which affects the rights of the child before birth. The child will have a right to child support if the mother/mothers or guardian petition for it and that you will have the right to petition for visitation and custody rights. You are welcome to a consultation with me for no fee at my offices at 42 west 44th Street, NY,NY. Please call for an appointment first. 646-591-5786
