Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

My aunt gifted me $5,000.00 in April of this year. She now may need to enter a rest home because of poor health. Do I have to return the gift. She will not have enough money to pay for the nursing home and the state will have to kick in. She is 84 with no children.

keep the money in cash. the state will pay for the rest home, but if the money is available, they may try to take it. It is not enough to significantly help your aunt and she may have given it to you just to keep the state from taking it.
