Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

If we were members of a Temple and we resigned in the middle of the year, are we responsible for the other half of the dues. We already paid the first half of the dues.

The answer is that it depends on the shul bylaws.

But you should know that many Temple Presidents would rather avoid controversy and an angry former member. So if you wrote to the President and followed up with a call, I am sure that something could be arranged. Based on experience, the President would probably state your case in front of the Board and give you some sort of refund.

I think your request also depends on whether or not you intend to utilize tickets for High Holy day services. Those usually make up the bulk of the membership dues.
