Canadian student on F-1 status, previously had green card

I am a Canadian citizen that use to have a greend card. My family moved to Japan due to family issues when I was a child, and my green card expired while I was there which was few years ago.

I am currently in the U.S. as a student. Is there any way that I can renew my green card? I have heard that my father was able to renew is several years ago although my family has stayed in Japan for the last 10 years.
