Legal Question in Insurance Law in New York

I was on partial disability which ended 12/06. Now I get a letter from the Ins. co. stating I owe them money back & they never directly contacted me it's from a collection agency. Can they do this 6 yrs later?

Hold them off until the New Year and the statute of limitations will have expired. Do not send them money, even a "little for good faith," because making payment will re-start the whole 6-year statute of limitations running again.

If it is the first notice, you have the right to request 'verification' of the debt. Until they verify, they can't commence a collection action. Verification usually takes more than 60 days, which sounds like it will get you close to the 6-year statute expiring.
