Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

Lanlord/Tenant Dispute

My landlord recently attacked me physically (sexually). I called the police and currently have a restraining order against him. I believe the charge is assault, forcible touching. I am late again with this months rent $1800, which I am consistantly late with but never past one month. I feel like I must move out of this apartment but cannot afford to do it for several months at least because of my current rent. Is there any way that I can sue him to get some free months rent considering he is the reason that I have to move.

Re: Lanlord/Tenant Dispute

Depending on when this occurred and whether the attack is something that is provable you may have a case against your landlord. Did you go to a doctor after the attack? Any witnesses?

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can e-mail me for more information about low cost face-to-face, on-line, or a telephone consultation with a lawyer in our office.
