Legal Question in Legal Ethics in New York

Breech of personal information

Hi, My University just mailed me a letter stating that they somehow accidently posted my personal information including social security information ona Google search engine along with 90,0000 other people in this database. Is there any legal recourse I may take against them for this act??

Presumably, they are taking steps to correct this. But you could insist that they give you free credit monitoring, good luck. Making a university pay for something like that won't be as easy as it would if they were a regular business. Anyone who can demonstrate that they were actually harmed by this could definitely sue and recover something.
