Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in New York

Question...

I had two seizures for the first time in january and did not recieve any mesication for it. Two months later, i had a stroke and 3 more seizures and now recieved medication (Dilantin) for it. If I was prescribed medication the first time, would it have prevented the following seizures from happening again? And did the act of not giving medication previously have anything to do with the stroke?

P.S. I was only 38 years old

Thank you

Re: Question...

Based upon the information provided in your question, a complete assessment of the causal relationship between your stroke and the seizures you experienced in January is not possible. It is possible for a stroke to be caused by conditions that can also produce seizures. It is also possible that the seizures you experienced in January were the result of a stroke that was never diagnosed. It is possible for medication to reduce the chances of a stroke. The only way to address what actually happened to you instead of what is generally possible is for you to sit down with your physicians and discuss it. If you are not comfortable discussing it with your physician, then you could also contact an attorney in your area with a specialty in Medical Malpractice and discuss the situation with them. Any medical records that you already have in your possession would probably be helpful to that attorney in assessing the situation; however, you should not request any medical records from your healthcare providers specifically for the purpose of consulting an attorney.
