Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

Defamation of Character

I was terminated after my employer found out I was pregnant. Of course, that's not the reason they gave. The reason was that I wasn't a team player. Anyway..I have been collecting unemployment. Now, the employer is contesting it after being told 3 times by unemployment, they have no case. The employer sent a letter to unemployment saying that I have ''exhibited every telltale sign and action of an employee seeking to get herself dismissed intentionally in order to collect unemployment benefits''. Do I have a case for defamation?

Re: Defamation of Character

I do not think so. Your employer has a legitimate business purpose for giving that information. Moreover, personal injury attorneys do not take defamation cases on a contingency fee basis and such litigation can be very costly.
