Name on deed and owner of property

my husband is in a lot of credit card debt. I want to buy a house and can qualify on my own. His mother living my husband is in a lot of credit card debt. I want to buy a house and qualify on my own. His mother living with us and she said she would give me some money for her grandchild who is 7 if I put my husband name on the deed. Can his name be on the deed and he dont pay mortgage? Will that mean he own in the house?
