Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

How do I find out if there is Home Equity Loan by co-owner?

Hello,

I currently co-own a multi-family

home with my sister (both on

mortgage and deed).

She has recently decided to move

out and rent her part of the home.

She has also purchased a home

nearby, but I do not know how. In

the past, she said she wanted to

do this by taking out a home equity

loan to pay for her a new home. I

didn't agree with this, but

somehow, she now owns a home.

I am concerned that she did this

without my knowledge and if she

doesn't pay (highly likely), I will be

held responsible.

My questions are:

#1: Can she take out a HEL without

my knowledge/consent?

#2: If so, how do I find out if she

did? Is there some kind of check I

can do through the mortgage

company?

Thanks,
