Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

verbal agreements - property

I payed a friend $137 a month for over 2 years ''$3000'' I can no longer pay for the 3 acres of land. I've done nothing to the property, I would like my money back, do I have any legal rights? No paper work was ever signed.

Re: verbal agreements - property

Transactions for the purchase of land in New York State must be in writing. They cannot be verbal. In my opinion, your friend cannot be compelled to sell you this property and you cannot be compelled to continue paying for it.

However, you may want to pursue the return of your $3,000 through small claims court.

Good Luck,
