Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in New York

Male Stripper in the Workplace

I have only recently worked up the courage to even THINK about the possibility of doing something about an incident that was forced upon me in the workplace about 6 years ago.

I was humiliated beyond belief. 2 women in my office hired a male stripper to 'entertain me' on my birthday. I wanted nothing to do with this. In fact, when I was first hired, I had heard stories about this and was quite vocal in my feelings about such things.

Well, they did it anyway. I believe this helped push me deeper into a budding depression, for which I have been receiving Psychiatrict services for.

I'm not one to make a big deal over things. So if I am making a 'big deal about nothing', please let me know.

I DO know, and will never forget, how I felt that day.

The owners of the company were present...which hurt my heart. Because I thought, for two men I had respected, they would never have allowed this to happen.

But they did. I lost much respect for them that day.

Other than keeping it locked inside, is there any legal recourse I have available to me?

I have pictures one of the girls took, for my 'memory' book. HAH, as if I needed pictures to remember this. I see my bosses standing there..laughing..and I could cry.

Re: Male Stripper in the Workplace

Unfortunately you have waited far too long. In New York, whether you ultimately proceed through the EEOC or State Division of Human Rights, you only have 300 days to file a written complaint.

You would either make an appointment or send a written complaint to the NYS Div. of Human Rights in the County where you reside or work;

they investigate for the State and they also accept on behalf of the US EEOC. This is their website:www.NYSDHR.com.

If that is the only incident that occurred at that company, if you are still employed there,

you are time barred.

However, if you are still employed at the same company and over the years there have been more

incidents, you might proceed based on the entire history.
