Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

disobeyed traffic control device

I was pulled over earlier today, going 52 in a 35. Officer asked why he pulled me over, I said speeding, he took my license and registration, came back and gave me a form for disobeying traffic control device. He said it was speeding, 4 pts, but since I was honest, he knocked it down to that charge and it's 2 points.

Basically...how does this all work? I have no problem with any fines, and I'll admit that I was speeding, but what am I looking at for a fine, penalty, etc? Any consequences to the 2 points on my license? How long are they there for and what problems do they carry? Also, any possibility of getting them lowered to 0 points, but still a fine? Thanks.
