Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Waiver form

I received a waiver form from my Aunt's estate. I am not in her will; however, I am the closest living relative. Why would I need to sign a waiver if the distribution of assets is declared in her will ?

Re: Waiver form

You would need to sign the form since if the Will was deemed invalid, and your aunt died intestate (without a will), you would receive an inheritance pursuant to statute.
