Legal Question in Workers Comp in New York

laid off due to on the job injury

I was injured after 11 1/2 years of employment with my employer. I was injured 1/17/07, I had surgery 9/4/08. I returned to work 10/26/08. I was laid off 5/16/08 due to the fact I was still on light duty and could not return to my regular duty. My physician and the independant doctor agreed that I could not return to my regular duty until the company supplied me with a different piece of equiptment (that was inexpensive), they laid me off instead. I am an open comp case, can they do this to me? I was injured there and now I have no job and I am disabled because of this injury. I just want to know if there are any legal options available to me. Thank you.
