Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Zealand (Aotearoa)

Power of Attorney Requirements from Abroad

I am a US citizen, living in New Zealand. I'm buying a house in Illinois and would like to give someone living in Illinois Power of Attorney to sign for me at the closing. Who do I need to have witness the Power of Attorney here in New Zealand to make it legal?

You must use a lawyer or Justice of the Peace to witness the Power of Attorney.

There is a standard form of Power of Attorney which a lawyer can provide. Consider if you wish to limit the powers which you give, because by default the Power of Attorney grants them authority to act in respect of all of your affairs.
