Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Adoption and child support

My ex pays child support to my 16 year old son. He now states he has adopted his wifes daughter. How much will this effect my son's support?

Re: Adoption and child support

Responsibility for an after-born child or a subsequently adopted child is a factor in the North Carolina Child Support Guidelines that may result in a decrease of child support he is obligated to pay you for the benefit of your son.

However, if your child support order is more than 3 years old, the guidelines have changed so much that it may not make that much difference or he could even be required to pay more.

If circumstances allow, you can always request a deviation from the guidelines.

And he has to continue paying what he is ordered to pay until he files a motion to reduce his obligation.

Best wishes,
