Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Divorce

My husband and I are going thru a divorce. I will be the primary custody hold of our 6 yr old daughter. He has gotten a lawyer, and she has written up papers stating everything that I have agreed upon. Is it necessary for me to spend money to get a lawyer..when I do agree to the paper work??

Re: Divorce

It may not be necessary for you to have an attorney, but it is certainly a smart idea. If things are as simple as you believe them to be, then it shouldn't cost that much to have an attorney review their proposed agreement with you and appear at the hearing to have it approved.

Sometimes, people do not understand what it is that they are agreeing to, and once the Court approves it, you will have to live with it until you can have it changed -- IF you can have it changed. The money that you save now could end up costing you many times over in the long run.

It is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case. If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.

Re: Divorce

If you are in North Carolina, go to the NC Bar Association and use their referral service ( http://www.ncbar.org/public/lrs/index.aspx ).

For only $30, you can get a consultation with a family law attorney for 30 min.

If you still need help and you are in North Carolina, we offer a Virtual Law Office through our website, www.RiceFamilyLaw.com and we could quote you a rate to consult with you, obtain the facts and review the agreement.
