Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

My husband may have a child with an ex girlfriend. He was 16 and she was 16 when they dated and she got pregnant. He is not on the birth certificate and she claims him to be the father. He wants to be involved but she will not allow him to be. How can he become involved?

He would have to establish paternity in court, probably have to pay past and future child support, and get a court order allowing him to visit with the minor child.
