Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

Surname Question

I do genealogy. From what I have found out my gg-grandpa was actually born with a different surname. His mother having him out of wedlock. She gave him HER surname, instead of father's surname.

Now all this time every one born has went under HER surname.

My question is, by law should we be going under the real male's surname? By blood we really are not what we have been going by all these years. And as far as I know, there was no legal change in names when this person gave her son her maiden name.

Re: Surname Question

Nonsense. What counts is not the label on the outside bue the content of the character inside.

"By blood we really are not what we have been going by all these years." ??? Where did you get THAT idea??? You have just as much blood from your mother as you do from your father.

There is no need nor purpose in changing your name. WHO you are is better determined by your actions, conduct and behavior rather than by your name.

If you're are a jerk, you're a jerk regardless of your name might be.

Likewise, if you are a good, kind, honest, decent, hard-working, and reputable person, than you're a good, kind, honest, decent, hard-working, and reputable person regardless of your last name.
