Legal Question in Medical Leave in North Carolina

Who is included in this act?

My brother is having surgery the end of the month. I have to take my mom bake and forth from the hospital. The hospital is and hour away from my mom.

Can I use sick leave to take the time off? Am I eligible to use this Act for time off of work because he is my brother?

FMLA - Taking Mother to visit brother in hospital

The Family Medical Leave Act provides leave for the purpose of caring for the employee's spouse, son, daughter, or parent with a "serious health condition". It does not provide leave for caring for a sibling. It is doubtful that visiting a hospitalized sibling would be considered "care" under the Act.
