Legal Question in Civil Litigation in North Carolina

I have been penalized by the department of social services for not reporting my husband living in the home ,but he was not at the time living in the home I was letting him use my address so he could obtain his mail. He was between address and the department knows that because they were able to pull up all address on him. I think this is unfair and the hearing is sceduled for June the 24th. I stand to lose my foodstamp benifits and not be eligable for a year to reapply. They also said I would have to pay back about 700.00

Let's see - your husband could not get a post office box and you had to fraudulently allow him to use your address and jeopardize your food stamps? DSS is not going to be sympathetic to you. Unless you have proof, it looks and feels like your husband was residing at your home. And your husband ought to be supporting his family even if he is not living in the home.

My advice would be to get an attorney that deals with benefit issues. Try Legal Aid if you are indigent. I do not handle issues involving public benefits.
