Legal Question in Investment Law in North Carolina

promissory note defualt

I invested $20,000 with a real estate investor in the form of a promissory note in the state of North Carolina. The due date has come and The man promised 1 time to repay but never showed up. He will never reply to any messages. What if anything can I do to get this matter resolved? I would apprieciate any advice you have as I have found He is doing the same to others.
