Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in North Carolina

I live in NC and moved into a rental house last summer. My lease says no pets which I assumed was that I could have no animals. Now the landlord says no out of town guests with animals can visit. Is that what no pets means? Also my lease has expired and when asked about it she said it's assumed the lease continues. Doesn't it continue on a month to month rent?

Unfortunately, no pets means simply no pets. So even pets from guests are not allowed unless the lease specifically states so.

Also, when the lease term expires, unless the lease says otherwise, the law treats all provisions of the lease remaining in effect during the subsequent month to month periods.
