Can a housing development home owners association stop you from puting up a Sunsetter canapy over your patio?

Review your declarations and covenants. This could constitute a change to the appearance of your property and may require you to obtain approval from the architectural committee (if there is one) or the HOA/POA before it is installed. They will not stop you, but they will fine you and order you to take it down until you obtain approval.
