Timeshares are a mistake in my opinion. I don't know what you paid for it or if you are still financing it. If you paid for it in full, you may be able to sell it depending on where it is located. Go to www.tug2.net (Timeshare User's Group) for information.

Avoid hiring some company and paying up front - only agree to have someone sell your property if they will get paid if the timeshare sells.

You also may be able to transfer it if you have a friend or relative that really wants it if its paid for. Giving it to someone might be an option just to get rid of it. If nobody wants it, try www.donateforacause.org. You have to pay $25 and apply. They don't take all timeshares, but if they accept your timeshare, they sell it and you direct the charitie(s) from a list who are to receive the proceeds. You get rid of the time share and will be able to write it off on your taxes, which is still better than nothing at all.

Most timeshare companies do not have buy back programs. However, depending on your financial situation, they may be willing to take it back in lieu of foreclosure. It depends on where the timeshare is at - South Carolina, for example, limits the remedy to simple foreclosre of the timeshare and cannot come after you for a deficiency. Other states don't have such a generous law. It also depends on if it is paid for or what you still owe on it.
