Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in North Carolina

Add Name to Title

I will shortly be moving to my family residence in Belmont, North Carolina. This is a house that my grandfather built and left to his daughter, Lynda. Lynda wants to add my name to the title of the house, but doesn't know how much this will cost or how difficult it will be. Can you tell me?

Re: Add Name to Title

To prepare a deed itself is usually fairly simple and an attorney would charge somewhere from $75-$150. The recording fees would be minimal. Also your sister would be the one to request the preparation and would need to hire the attorney.

HOWEVER, that is without a title search, any advice on gift tax considerations, judgment considerations, the consequences of making the transfer during lifetime as opposed to the death of the property owner, etc.
