Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in North Carolina

A distant relative died with no will. I need to administer her estate but since one of the relatives is a minor, I have to be bonded. There is only one piece of real estate in the estate so I only need the minumum bond. But since my credit score is less than 650, I am having a hard time getting bonded. Are there any companies who will bond for the minumum bond without a credit check? Help!

Is there anyone else who can serve as administrator? Have you sought the advice of a probate attorney? The attorney should be assisting you with this. What about a public administrator?

Bonding agencies are going to be leery of bonding someone with bad credit because it means that you are more likely (in their mind) to be tempted to help yourself to estate funds meaning their risk of paying out is greater. So even if you found a company, they are going to want a higher premium for the bond.
