A codicil is a legal document which has the effect of adding, deleting or otherwise changing something that was in the original Will. A codicil must be signed and witnessed in the same way a will is to be valid.

Its a legal addendum that overrules any contrary intent in the will.

A codicil is simply a document that amends a prior Will. If you make substantial changes to a Will or have made several Codicils, attorney's frequently recommend executing a new Will in lieu of making a codicil.
