Legal Question in Business Law in Ohio

Proof of payment

In 2000/2001 I co-signed for a cell phone for my son Christopher with Cingular Wireless. He ran up a large bill (650.00). In order to resolve the situation my son talked to a Cingular Wireless representative and made an agreement (verbal) for a buy out and payment plan. My son says he paid the bill and owes nothing. Yesterday I received the first letter ever from a collection agency stating that I owe over 650.00. When I called them they said I had to contact Cingular. After almost 2 hours of transferring I was told to fax any information or proof of payment to them. At one point I was told that my social security number did not match the account. I assume that maybe they assinged the phone number to someone else and maybe they owe the monies. My son does not have any records after 3 years.I do not have anything but a copy of a fax with the person's name that my son spoke to about the buy out. I need to know what my legal rights are here if any. Please respond asap.

Re: Proof of payment

How did your son pay the bill off? If it was by check, he might be able to request records from his bank to prove payment.
