Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Ohio

photographing buildings

I was wondering what the laws were regarding photography. I am a photography student and love to take pictures of buildings, specifically industrial buildings. I was told that as long as I was on public property when I took the picture, i.e.: the sidewalk, that it was ok. However I was stopped awhile ago in frount of AKA Steel in Middletown Ohio and was accused of industrial espionage and they confiscated my film, and took all of my personal information. If you could let me know specifically what the laws are so that this won't happen again I would greatly appreciate it. Also what are the laws against taking pictures of a persons home?

Re: photographing buildings

You are free to photograph anything in public from any public place [sidewalk]. Those who confiscated your film were wrong. You are free to photograph anyone's house so long as you don't trespass.
