In Ohio, you might want to consider speaking with an attorney who is well versed in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Consumer Sales Practices Act. Many times, the amounts that the collectors are seeking are incorrect, giving you a claim for relief under the FDCPA. Further, the manner in which the deals came into existence my be violations of the CSPA, providing a defense against these amount as well.

If all else fails, you should speak to an attorney who is well versed in bankruptcy law. Such an attorney can put you into either a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, wherein you will slowly pay back your debts over time, or a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, where your debts are discharged.
