An informal agreement between unmarried parents isn't advisable. It is better to work through the courts although it may seem worse to you. Your lives will changes in many directions, and a court order will keep your parenting arrangement on track during those changes.

Any agreement you make without going to court can never be enforced. As soon as one of you decides they are unhappy, it will lead to trouble. Since it sounds like you two can at least come to an agreement on everything, you could probably get a dissolution, which is relatively inexpensive and also pretty quick. The expense and pain of a divorce can be avoided. It will also be legally binding and enforceable. Edward DiCato
