Legal Question in Personal Injury in Ohio

State of OHIO-my daughter was in a car accident that injured her passenger, she was cited for failure to control, she is pleading no contest to this ticket. The injured passenger's parents retained a lawyer to sue my car insurance. Questions: 1- is the way my daughter is pleading to the ticket make us liable if the parents sue us (civil suit)? 2- is this typical of the injured party to hire a lawyer to sue the car insurance, wouldn't the health ins sue the car ins?

The no contest plea will have no bearing on the civil claim. If the passenger was injured it is not at all unusual to hire a lawyer to seek damages for medical bills, wage loss and pain and suffering (that's how I make my living). The health insurance may present a claim to get back the money it paid for the passengers medical bills but usually it justs demands payment from the person making the claim out of their settlement. Make sure you turn this matter over to your insurance company, it will pay the settlement or hire a lawyer to represent your daughter, or both. Feel free to call me if you have any questions.
